Top 10 Marketing Tips for Florists

Florist Marketing Tips

Traditional florists in the UK are having to adapt as more and more of us buy flowers online. Take a look at our top 10 marketing tips for florists below.

  • Accept online orders

It may require a bit of investment on your part but online flower ordering is big business and gives you a virtual 24/7 shop. If your local competitors offer an online service and you don’t, you could be missing out on a huge amount of business.

  • Use a professional photographer

The quality and freshness of your flowers will really need to shine through on your website so low resolution poor quality images will just not work. It’s worthwhile hiring a professional photographer to capture your arrangements and make sure the images do your products justice.

  • Write keyword rich product descriptions

Product descriptions are very important for two reasons; firstly they are your chance to really try and sell the product to a customer and secondly, if you write them to include your chosen keywords and phrases they will help boost your search engine rankings. For example you could include the text “if you’re looking for red roses in Edinburgh” within the product description for red roses.

  • Use your website to up-sell

While people will predominantly come to your website to buy flowers, you can use your website checkout to try and sell other related items such as chocolates, Champagne, vases, gift cards and balloons.

  • Use online discount codes

Emailing out discount codes to loyal customers or potential new customers is a very good way of getting online orders. Giving a deadline for use of the promotional discount code can also encourage orders during quieter spells.

  • Run an online competition

There’s nothing like a competition to create a buzz around your florists business. As flowers are such a versatile gift they’re perfect for offering as a prize. You can choose to run your competition on Twitter & Facebook as well as on your own website.

  • Use text messaging

Gathering customer’s mobile numbers when they order online can be very useful. For example it would be a nice touch to text someone and tell them when their flowers have been delivered to the recipient.

  • Put your web address on everything

Don’t pass up a chance to promote your website. Your web address should be on everything from business cards to deliver vehicles because you never know where an order is going to come from.

  • Add a personal touch

Sometimes the little things make all the difference to customers. For example if someone rings you from another country to send flowers to a local loved one you could arrange for the delivery person to take a photo of the recipient with their flowers and send it on to the person who ordered them.

  • Follow up your orders with an email

Once you’ve delivered an order for a customer you should keep in touch with them by sending an email. This could be in the form of a satisfaction survey which will allow you to identify any areas you could improve on.
