Video Marketing Tips – Our Top 10
Video marketing can bring many benefits to your business from SEO to putting your brand in front of a wider audience.
We’ve put together our top 10 video marketing tips for small businesses that are looking to grab a share of this massive market.
- Don’t use your videos to hard sell
When it comes to video marketing there’s nothing like a hard sell to turn people off in their droves. This is a very common trap that people fall into when producing video content for their websites and it ultimately does the opposite of what you set out to achieve.
- Think about what your target market wants
Try to think from a prospective customer’s point of view when planning the content for your business video. For example, if you sell hairdressing supplies online you could show videos of people looking great on a night out rather than taking a direct selling approach.
- Ask for comments and ratings at the end of your video
If you upload your business video to YouTube make sure you ask people to rate and comment on your video as this can help with your search engine rankings as well as increasing the popularity of your video.
- Optimise your video
You can optimise your video marketing content by using your chosen keywords and phrases in the title of your video as well as the description that you put on sites such as YouTube. You can also add tags to your video which help people identify what the subject matter is.
- Use your imagination
If you get a bit creative with your video marketing you can really reap the rewards through people forwarding it onto their friends. For example, a company that makes blenders did a great job of producing a series of videos called “will it blend?” where they took items such as tins of spam, iphones and garden hoses and put them in their blenders to see what would happen. Many of these short videos have attracted millions of views each on YouTube alone.
- Keep your videos short and memorable
The internet is all about being able to access information easily and quickly, so your video marketing should reflect this. Nobody wants to listen to you drone on for 30 minutes about your products or services so you should break your content down into manageable chunks.
As mentioned in tip #5, try to come up with something a bit different that people are going to remember rather than copying one of your competitors.
- Embed videos into your website
A short introductory video on your website can work wonders when it comes to keeping people on your site for longer. Just remember that not everyone will be at home when using the internet so your video and sound shouldn’t start without warning when your site loads up, the user should be in control of whether they want to watch it or not.
- Distribute your videos as widely as possible
As well as putting your videos on your website and uploading them to YouTube, you can also submit them to a site called TubeMogul.com which submits your content to other video sharing sites for free. TubeMogul also provide a range of statistics including how your videos are being viewed and for how long.
- Monitor your statistics closely
You need to drill down into the statistics for your video marketing to try and pinpoint any areas where you can improve. Video marketing is not an exact science and it may take you a few attempts until you create the level of impact you want to.
- Ask your customers to use video
Video marketing is a form of social media and as such can be a two way street. For example, why not launch an online competition asking customers to send in a short video of them using your products in an unusual location with a prize for the winning entries.
Something like this can create a great buzz about your website and encourage lots of repeat visits.
