Top 10 tips to help promote your business blog
Once you’ve started your business blog, the next step is to try and get as many people to read it as possible.
We’ve compiled our top 10 tips below for getting more traffic for your business blog;
- Set up an RSS feed
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and allows people interested in your blog to set up a feed that alerts them whenever your blog is updated. People need to subscribe to your RSS feeds so there are no problems with spamming as they’ve asked to be sent the information.
- Guest blog
To give your own blog a wider audience you should approach complementary businesses to ask if you can write a guest blog for them. This will give you exposure to a whole new market of potential readers who may then subscribe to your own blog.
- Optimise your blog posts
It’s good practise to optimise your blog posts to give them the best chance of being found in search engine results. Using your chosen keyword or phrase in the meta title & description, headline and first sentence in each post you make can help your blog get more traffic.
- Use social media
When you write a new blog post you can use the power of social media sites like Twitter and Facebook to help get the word out to a wider audience by posting a link back to your blog.
- Use social bookmarking
Social bookmarking is not the same as social media. By placing social bookmarking links at the foot of each of your blog posts you can encourage readers to bookmark and share your content with others. There are many social bookmarking sites out there and some of the most popular are Delicious, Sphinn, Digg and StumbleUpon.
- Put a link to your blog on your email signature
It’s very quick and easy to add a link to your blog in your email signature and this is another completely free way of promoting your blog in order to drive more traffic.
- Promote your blog on your business cards
Just because your blog is online doesn’t mean you can’t promote it offline too. If you hand out a lot of business cards every year then it makes sense to mention your blog address on there too.
- Mention your blog when posting on forums
It’s a no brainer to add your blog address to your forum signatures too as you never know who could be reading your comments online. You can also point people in the direction of your blog if you feel a particular post is relevant to a topic within the forum itself.
- Comment on popular blogs
If there’s a very popular blog related to your industry then by leaving comments on their blog posts you can encourage people to visit your own blog. Be careful not to be too obvious in your attempts though, just join in any discussions naturally and avoid the hard sell.
- Post regularly
The more interesting, relevant and optimised blog postings you make, the better chance you have of people finding and reading your blog. Posting once a month or less isn’t going to get your blog noticed so make sure you find the time to do it regularly.

It’s a good idea to enter discussions on blogging forums, too. I’d recommend BlogCatalog. Again, be sure to limit the amount of time that you spend looking at other people’s content, so that you have time to do things that you need to do for your own business.
