Why Sitting Back Shouldn’t be an Option
If you’ve got your website into the top position on the search engines for your chosen keywords/phrases, the worst thing you can do is sit back and congratulate yourself.
Find out why you should never stop promoting your business online by reading on below now.
- You don’t know what your competitors are doing
Just because you’re number one in the search engines for your chosen keywords/phrases on a particular day, week or month, doesn’t mean your site will stay there.
For all you know, your competitors may be undertaking a comprehensive SEO campaign which could see your site drop a few places if you rest on your laurels.
While you may be able to check backlinks to competitor websites using Yahoo Site Explorer, it doesn’t give a true up-to-date picture of what your rivals are up to in terms of SEO.
A proactive and consistent approach to your online marketing is the best way to ensure you don’t get overtaken in the search engine results and suffer a decline in traffic.
- You could get more sales by targeting other keywords/phrase
Your initial keyword research may just have focused on one or two main terms. If you sit back when you’ve achieved the results you want for these, you could be missing out on more online sales/enquiries by not looking at other relevant keywords/phrases.
For example, if you’re a local gas engineer there may be a number of different phrases you can target such as “heating engineer”, “gas engineer”, “boiler repair”, gas safe engineer” followed by your town or city name.
- You may not have the budget when you need it
Failing to spread your online marketing budget throughout the year could leave you short if you find you’ve been overtaken in the search engine results.
Imagine your closest competitor has just knocked you off position one for your most profitable keyword and your traffic has dropped dramatically.
If you’ve sat back thinking you don’t need to do anything else, you may not have the available marketing budget to react to this change in search engine position for a couple of months, which could cost you dearly.

If you have enough money, yes, you can sleep well. Use Google ads on other websites. You pay for each click. Which is better? I think SEO is better for a long time.
