Your First Week on Twitter – Part 3 – Building Your Brand

The final part of my First Week on Twitter series looks at how you can build your brand.

Brand Building

Many small business owners tell me one of the things stopping them from joining Twitter is they don’t know what they should and shouldn’t be tweeting about.

Read the rest of this post to discover five do’s and don’ts of tweeting.

DO

  • Be yourself and show your true personality
  • Share other’s information as well as promoting your own content
  • Use a consistent tone of voice
  • Re-post your tweets to gain visibility and catch different time zones
  • Focus on tweet quality rather than quantity

DON’T

  • Make all your tweets about you and your products/services
  • Criticise competitors or clients – it’s a small world on Twitter
  • Post anything you wouldn’t want to read yourself – like what you had for lunch
  • Swear in your tweets
  • Spam people – get to know other Twitter users by starting a conversation

These do’s and don’ts are just a basic guide for Twitter beginners. As you use Twitter every day, you’ll soon develop a feel for it and begin to build your own brand naturally.
