Me on the Web – Google’s New Feature
Author: Jamie | Filed under: Online Reputation ManagementGoogle has recently launched a new feature called “Me on the Web”.
You won’t find this on the main search results pages, but it’s a useful little tool nonetheless.
Read on to get the low-down on this new Google feature and how to use it to your advantage.
Where can I find “Me on the Web”?
If you go to www.google.com/dashboard and login to your Google account (if you aren’t already logged in) and look under the “Account” section you’ll see the new “Me on the Web” section.
Why is it useful?
There are a number of useful things you can do and find out about by using this tool including.
- Set up Google Alerts for when your name, email address or a chosen keyword/phrase is entered online and choose how frequently you want notified.
- Get information on how to manage your online reputation
- How to go about getting any unwanted content related to you or your business removed
As with many of Google’s most useful tools, there has been no fanfare to introduce “Me on the Web” despite its obvious uses and the fact it’s free.
If you’ve never searched for your own name, company name or mentions of your email addresses online before, now’s the time to do it.
Managing your reputation online by monitoring what others may be saying about you is the very least every small business owner should be doing.
All it takes is one bad review online to harm your reputation. Make sure you’re on top of things by using “Me on the Web”.

Hi Sally, you’re very welcome and thanks for commenting. If there’s anything specific you’d like me to write about in the future, just contact me on Twitter. Love your gravatar pic!
Hi Jamie, I find that a lot of WordPress users have a Gravatar and they don’t even bother setting up a Google Profile – especially if they use Firefox. Now that +1 is getting more attention, people are beginning to realize that they need both. I’m a Chrome user and Google fan so my profile was established a few years ago, so I’m really glad they added this feature. Thanks for sharing this! I voted on Serpd.

Hi Ileane, you’ve made some very good points. I think many people still don’t have a Google Profile set up as they don’t seem to publicise this feature very much.
Thanks very much for voting for me on SERPD – I’ll be sure to return the favour.
Best wishes
Jamie
