lightbulb moments

Starting a blog is one thing; keeping it going week after week, month after month can be tough.

Worry no more. Below are 15 sources of inspiration if you’re struggling to think of a topic for your next blog post.

  1. Twitter – if you’re following the right people, Twitter will always provide plenty of ideas for blog posts.
  2. Friends & family – it’s often good to get a fresh perspective on what you should be writing about.
  3. Competitors’ blogs – use what they’ve written as inspiration for your own post on the same topic.
  4. Your own blog posts – take a post you’ve written before and update it.
  5. Newspapers & magazines – don’t always focus online, there are still plenty of great articles published offline every day.
  6. Blog comments – look at what people have said either on your own blog or other peoples’ to find inspiration for something new to cover.
  7. Yourself – people love to read stories, so why not tell your own and let them read about who you are and how you get to where you are now.
  8. Surveys – ask your customers to take a short survey by email and write about the results.
  9. Google News – you’ll find the news menu on the left when you go to the main google.co.uk or .com page; type in some keywords and see what you can find.
  10. Industry forums – often just taking a look at the titles of threads is enough to spark an idea for a blog post.
  11. Books – if a new book has just come out in your industry, buy a copy, read it, and share your opinions with others.
  12. Ask for guest posts – asking for guest contributors can be a blog post in itself, but also ease the pressure if you run out of time or ideas again in the future.
  13. Your customers – write about what you’ve done for one of your clients and how happy they were.
  14. Photographs – a picture of a billboard with an unusual advert for example, can create interest and lots for you to write about.
  15. Use a blog post title generator – sites such as http://enlightr.com/ptg can generate ideas for you based on some key words you enter.
