Five Good Reasons to Host Your Blog on Your Main Website

5 reasons

One of the questions I’m often asked by people setting up their first website is whether or not they should have a separate website for their blog.

In my opinion, it’s best to have your blog on your main company website. In this article I’ll share five good reasons why.

  • SEO benefits

The SEO benefits of having your blog on your main website are two-fold. First of all, your search engine rankings will be positively influenced by having relevant and regular content on the site rather than a separate blog.

The second reason is the benefit of incoming links. It’s better for your business if people link to content on your main site rather than a separate blog. If you have all your blog posts on a Blogger template for example and lots of people like and link to them, the blog will get a boost from these links and not your primary business website.

  • Convenience

It’s easier and cheaper to host everything on the one domain rather than having a main company website and a completely separate blog.

  • Consistency

Having the same look and feel for your blog as your main site is wise. If you’ve spent a lot of time and effort designing a great looking main site, why devalue that by having your blog hosted on a basic looking template?

  • Authority

If your best blog posts are all hosted on a different domain from your main website, people may not automatically link the two. You should have your opinions, advice and thoughts on your main website as it helps show you’re an authority in your field, as well as injecting personality into your website. Why hide what you think on a separate domain?

  • Recognition

If you want to be recognised individually or as a company for producing great content, it makes sense to have your blog as part of your main company website.

The content you produce is all part of your brand, so it makes sense to have everything tied together under one virtual roof.
